There are several translations to the Greek word “Logos”.  We choose to use it in the context of concentrating on scripture as God’s Holy and undisputed word.  That is the main theme of the LOGOS class at First Baptist Church. Roanoke.

Three main concepts are emphasized in our studies:

• To teach the word of God
• To spread the word of God
• To minister using the word of God

Our class is made up of mostly 35 to 45 year old married couples, most of which have small to teenage children.  This allows each member to relate each week’s study to their lives and hear from other people that are facing similar situations and circumstances throughout their lives.

Teaching the word of God:

Each week our class delves into the Bible through the Life Way publication “Exploring the Bible” series.  Quarterly throughout the year the series takes the class through several books of the Bible to help each of us more fully understand God’s plan for our lives and for those around us.  We are challenged each week to continue in our Christian maturing process.

Spreading the word of God:

We encourage and attempt to use our study to affect our world each week.  The times to share the Gospel come frequently as we all work and go about our daily responsibilities.  An emphasis on living the life is made through our study of scripture and encouragement to each other each week.

Ministering with the word of God:

With the understanding that we all are busy and most of our lives are full the amount of time we get together as a class outside of Sunday school is not as much as most of us would like.  One thing we do very well though is coming to each other’s aid in times of struggle, difficulty or business.  The ministry efforts towards each other are plentiful and we feel they glorify God.
